When your property utilizes a well to provide your household with water, you may not give much thought to the pump's condition while your water supply is even and consistent. It may only be when the pump goes out completely that you are aware that a problem is present.

However, when the motor in the pump fails, it often gives off early warnings that there is an issue. Be on the lookout for a couple of signs indicating that the well pump's motor is struggling and starting to fail so that you will not be caught off-guard by an interruption in your home's water supply.

1.  Hot Shower Becomes Scalding Within Seconds

One sign that the pump's motor is starting to fail can be detected while taking a shower. Normally, when you turn on the spigot to mix cold water in with the hot, it changes the temperature fairly quickly.

However, if the motor is failing, it may not be able to send the cold water fast enough to meet the demand for cold water. Within a few seconds, the water may become scalding hot.

Because the water has already been delivered to the tank that is supplying the shower, the hot water will come straight from the water heater. The water coming out of the shower can become scalding hot within seconds and may take a few minutes to cool down while waiting for the cold water from the well.

2.  Water Spits Air as It's Coming out of Your Faucets

Another sign that your home's water well pump motor is failing is observable by watching the water coming out of any and all of the faucets in your home. Normally, the motor will keep the water flow and pressure even, delivering a steady stream from the faucets.

However, if the motor has started to weaken, the pressure and flow may drop, allowing air to mix in with the water. As a result, the water will spit air as it is coming out of the faucets.
